Jessica Dolcourt/CNET Samsung announced a pair of fresh phones in its midrange Galaxy A series during Mobile World Congress on Monday.The Galaxy A50 and A30 are the initial models for 2019, and both feature 6.4-inch 1,080×2,340-pixel Super AMOLED Infinity-U displays, with dimensions of 158.5 by 74.7 by 7.7mm.The differences start with the cameras — the A50 has a 25-megapixel camera on the front, with 25-, 5- and 8-megapixel options on the back (continuing the triple-rear camera trend). The A30 has a 16-megapixel one on the front, and 16- and 5-megapixel cameras at the rear. Memory-wise, you can get the A50 with 4 or 6GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB internal storage. The A30 comes with either 3 or 4GB RAM and 32 or 64 GB internal storage.The A30 has 16- and 5-megapixel cameras on the back. Donald TrumpA porn star sued President Donald Trump on Tuesday to declare a “hush agreement” over their alleged affair invalid because he never signed it, documents say.Los Angeles lawyer Michael Avenatti posted on his Twitter account a copy of what appears to be the suit filed on behalf of the porn star who goes by the name Stormy Daniels. Her real name is Stephanie Clifford.The hush agreement does “not exist, because, among other things, Mr Trump never signed” the document with a Superior Court of California stamp, the suit says.It alleges she had an intimate relationship with Trump from 2006 to 2007, which she sought to reveal after Trump won the Republican Party nomination for president and other women claimed to have had sexual encounters with him.With help from his lawyer Michael Cohen, Trump then sought to “aggressively… silence Ms Clifford as part of an effort to avoid her telling the truth, thus helping to ensure he won the presidential election,” the document says.Cohen prepared a non-disclosure agreement, a copy of which is attached to the lawsuit and which required a $130,000 payment to be wired from a company known as Essential Consultants LLC to Clifford in return for her silence, according to the documents.Using the pseudonyms Peggy Peterson and David Dennison, Clifford and Trump were to sign the agreement, along with Essential Consultants.Days before the November 2016 presidential election which Trump won, Clifford put her name to the document, as did Cohen for Essential Consultants, it says.“Mr. Trump, however, did not sign the agreement, thus rendering it legally null and void and of no consequence,” the document adds.Cohen told US media last month that he paid Clifford $130,000, prompting her manager to suggest a non-disclosure agreement had been broken.Cohen declined to give details such as why he made the payment, or if Trump was aware of it at the time.“Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly,” Cohen said, according to the New York Times.Trump declined to comment on the issue. Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has taken up a special drive to collect property tax arrears from defaulters.A civic team comprising senior officials of the Assessment department visited two premises on Topsia Road and put up distress warrant on the walls. KMC will take legal action against the owners if they fail to pay the arrears within the stipulated date. The drive has been initiated after the civic authorities failed to collect house tax arrears worth more than Rs 50 crore. There are around 7.60 lakh assesses living in the areas under the jurisdiction of KMC. The officials said that the two firms housed at 71, Topsia Road have not paid house tax dues worth Rs 71 lakh. The civic authorities said the owners have cleared 50% of the dues on Monday and gave an undertaking that the remaining amount will be paid by Friday. The owners of four firms housed at 83/2/1 Topsia Road have not paid house tax arrears worth several lakhs. The civic authorities have put up distress warrant and legal action will be taken against the owners if they fail to pay within the stipulated time. The officials said unlike in the past when property tax payers had to stand in long queues to pay tax, the system of online payment has been introduced now. Property owners can go to any e-counter and pay the tax and rebate is given if the tax is paid within the stipulated time.

Just relax and be yourself during the interview, as a study has found that authenticity is key to securing an employment offer.Researchers, including those from University College London (UCL) in the UK, found that high-quality candidates who strive to present themselves accurately during the interview process significantly increase the likelihood of receiving a job offer.”People are often encouraged to only present the best aspects of themselves at interview so they appear more attractive to employers, but what we have found is that high-quality candidates – the top 10 per cent – fare much better when they present who they really are,” said SunYoung Lee from UCL School of Management. You can be honest and authentic. And if you are, you will be more likely to get a job,” Moore said. The researchers conducted three studies – two field studies looking at the importance of self-verification for groups of professionals applying for different jobs and a third experimental study testing the mechanism behind the effects observed. In the two field studies, prior to job interviews, candidates reported their self-verification drive, and their quality was evaluated in face-to-face interviews. The candidates that had been evaluated as high quality had a 51 per cent likelihood of receiving a placement, but this increased to 73 per cent for those who also had a strong drive to self-verify.The second study replicated this effect in a radically different sample by assessing 333 lawyers applying for positions in a branch of the US military.For this group, high quality candidates increased their chances of receiving a job offer five-fold, from 3 per cent to 17 per cent, if they also had a strong drive to self-verify.This effect was only seen in high-quality candidates, and for those rated as low-quality, the drive to self-verify weakened their position.The third study was designed to test the mechanism behind this effect. For this, the researchers surveyed 300 people on their self-verification striving and selected those who were extremely high and extremely low in the distribution.The research was published in the Journal of Applied Psychology.
The tech world has spent the last 24 hours or so pretty confused at semiconductor manufacturer Broadcom’s purchase software company CA Technologies. The deal, which Broadcom sealed with $18.9 billion in cash, was, according to the company, a way of adding to its portfolio “mission critical technology businesses.” However, it seems the deal was just a little too left-field. Yesterday (Thursday 12 July), Broadcom’s shares dropped 13.8%. This equates to a drop of $14.5 billion. Why did Broadcom purchase CA Technologies? This is the question that everyone seems to be asking. Ostensibly, the move is really about consolidating and driving Broadcom’s position in the tech space forward. However, as The Register pointed out, a quarterly review between executives in June made no mention of an acquisition. It certainly didn’t mention CA Technologies. Speaking to Bloomberg, Cody Acree said “It’s the lack of obvious connection between the two businesses. What does Broadcom know about improving CA’s efficiencies?” However, there may be some method in Broadcom’s apparent madness, even if investors don’t see it. Broadcom’s business in semiconductors – Silicon chips – is more unstable than the type of software solutions offered by CA Technologies. The semiconductor market depends a lot on fluctuations in the consumer gadget market. However, even if this makes sense to the Broadcom excecutives, communicating this strategy would surely be absolutely essential. Surprising feints might look good in the long run but they can spook investors. A tale of two markets: consumer tech and software solutions It will take some time to see if Broadcom’s move actually does work out. But it demonstrates the vast difference between the consumer and B2B markets in technology. It doesn’t seem outrageous to suggest that at the very least Broadcom feels anxious about the volatility of its core market at the moment; its acquisition of CA Technologies might be the insurance policy it has been searching for.
