PIRU – A teenager who nearly drowned Sunday in Lake Piru – about the same time another youth who later died was pulled from the water – has made remarkable progress and was in good condition on Monday. The unidentified 16-year-old boy had been in extremely critical condition when he was pulled from the lake and taken by helicopter to Simi Valley Hospital, Ventura County sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Hagel said Monday. “By the time I left late Sunday afternoon, he was doing much, much better,” Hagel said. The youth was pulled from the lake about 9:49 a.m., moments after the futile attempt to rescue another boy, Jose Rodriguez, 14, who died at the hospital. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
