Boys HS Hoops: Warrensville Heights Wins Thriller Over Elyria Catholic 80-77 in OT

first_imgBy Mark PerezLast year, Warrensville Heights got knocked off by Elyria Catholic in the district tournament.Fast forward to 2020, No. 4-seeded Tigers faced No. 2-seeded Panthers again, but instead of a sectional final, it was the Division II, Bedford District Final and Warrensville Heights got their revenge after an 80-77 overtime thriller to send them to the Regional [email protected]_BB is your District champions!FinalWarrensville Hts: [email protected] 77— Mark Perez-Krywany (@MarkPerezK10) March 7, 2020 “[The win] means everything,” Tigers coach Brian Swift said with the district championship plaque in his arms.“It’s been a long year for us. It’s been an up-and-down roller coaster. We started [the season] off 2-0. Then we lost about seven-straight (games). We kind of lost our way… But, we came together, at one point, and we have been going up ever since.”The Tigers championship win was a roller-coaster experience as they started the game off by conceding a 13-1 Panthers’ run to help them gain a 20-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.“We knew that there would be jitters early [in the game],” Swift said.“But, I think that we were just … got a little timid instead of aggressive. Once we settled down and got comfortable, we started to pick our spots and we started to execute better.”Jumpstarting (14-12) Warrensville Heights was Omahn Dobbins, who missed last year’s playoff game against (18-6) Elyria Catholic.Dobbins was on fire in the first half scoring 15 of his 18 total points after the 13-1 run led by star Panthers’ guard Edward Wright with, who had 30 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four blocksDobbins made 6-of-8 field goals and had 4 assists in the first half to make it a 38-37 Panthers’ lead at halftime. After Dobbins cooled off, Junior star guard Ramelle Arnold got into a rhythm and took over the game by scoring 24 points in the second half shooting 70 percent from the field.“I feel like (Arnold) is the best point guard in the state,” Tigers’ Trezelle McQueen said.“He can do everything. Defend, score, facilitate, team-player. I love that dude.”Arnold finished with 34 points, five assists and six rebounds. The Tigers were able to slow down Panthers big-man Branson Taylor, the scorer with allowing 12 points. But this gave other Elyria Catholic players opportunities and Taylor found the open man as he finished with seven assists, two blocks and 15 rebounds.“When (Taylor) got the (ball), we tried to double him a little bit,” Swift said.We tried to be scrappy… If he did want to dribble, we just wanted to swarm him quickly.”In the third quarter, Taylor hooked up with point guard Ryan Griffin multiple times to score Griffin’s 10 of his 20 total points.Wright, has a reputation for hitting clutch shots as he hit one against Crestwood in the prior round to win it and hit another 3-pointer against Warrensville Heights to send the game into overtime.TIE GAME WITH 4.4 SECONDS REMAINING!Edward [email protected]— Mark Perez-Krywany (@MarkPerezK10) March 7, 2020 Related TopicsElyria Catholic PanthersfeaturedWarrensville Heights Tigers A basket from Arnold, Jamarion Johnson, and two free-throws from McQueen gave the Tigers a 3-point lead, but the Panthers had one more opportunity to tie the game, but they failed to get Wright the ball for a chance, due to Warrensville Heights’ deny ball defense on the star guard.“We made it [an emphasis] that (Wight) doesn’t touch the ball,” Arnold said.“I just did my best. I didn’t pay attention to any other guys. I was focused straight on him.”McQueen was a big presence in the paint as he blocked five shots to go along with his nine rebounds and 6 points. But, coming off the bench, Johnson was huge for the Tigers who scored 13 points on the court. Warrensville Heights advances to the Regional Semifinals and will take on No. 1 seed Norwayne in the Canton Fieldhouse on Mar. 11. NEO HS Stafflast_img read more

“There’s an offer from West Ham” – Manuel Pellegrini has given…

first_imgIn the months leading up to the January transfer window, Denis Suarez was repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League, with the Catalan media pushing stories about the Barcelona player. The clubs most linked were Chelsea and Arsenal and it was explained over and over again that Suarez would like a move to the Gunners, feeling his style would fit with that of Unai Emery.Despite claims of Arsenal potentially making an offer, the eagerness seemed to more on the side of the player, or at least that’s how the Catalan media made it sound. Now, Sport reports there’s been an offer for the Barcelona squad man… but it’s not from either of the clubs mentioned. In their Saturday edition, Sport state ‘There’s an offer from West Ham’ although they don’t say how much that offer is worth.Manuel Pellegrini is said to have given his ok to the January signing, and that’s what pushed West Ham into action. From Suarez’s perspective, it doesn’t sound hugely welcome, with Sport saying he’d prefer Chelsea or Arsenal, and could even wait until the summer for a Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksTrending TodayForge of Empires – Free Online GameDon’t Play This Game, it’s Addictive.Forge of Empires – Free Online GameUndoRaid: Shadow Legends | Free DownloadEven Non-Gamers Are Obsessed With This RPG Game (It’s Worth Installing!)Raid: Shadow Legends | Free DownloadUndoKeto减肥1個簡單的妙招一夜「融化」腹部贅肉(今晚試試)Keto减肥Undo聽多多 Hearmore.asia1969年前出生的香港居民現可免費試戴頂尖的歐洲助聽器聽多多 Hearmore.asiaUndoPerfect-Dating.comReveal Tung Chung As The Best City to Date for Love & RomancePerfect-Dating.comUndoDating.comFind out where single guys are hanging out in Tung ChungDating.comUndoTheTopFiveVPNEnjoy Netflix Now Without Any RestrictionsTheTopFiveVPNUndoCoworking Space | Search AdsThe cost of shared office in Hong Kong might surprise youCoworking Space | Search AdsUndo熱門話題小心會長過頭…網友推爆:「真的長得超誇張!」熱門話題Undolast_img read more

Regal hunting ‘Big Apple’ double

first_imgRegal Masters and Regal All-Stars will look to repeat their 2016 heroics where they won both categories when they take part in the 12th edition of the New York Cup from June 29- July 1. This year marks the fifth consecutive year that the Regal teams will be participating in the Independence Cup and they are oozing with confidence at bringing back the coveted ‘double’ to Guyana. The All-Stars side will be competing in the Open category and according to team owner, Mahendra Hardyal, they are focused on winning.“The guys have been showing good chemistry and readiness in their practice sessions and can’t wait to cut loose on all opponents,” Hardyal said. In 2016, the All-Stars side won the title but lost in the final in 2017 due to what Hardyal described as “bad execution.”“This year, we will be sticking to the plan and take it one game at a time which will not result in a repeat of last year,” the successful businessman noted.Additionally, the team has been strengthened with the trio of  Nandsham Boodhoo, Lennox “Assassin” Mark and Shilendra Ramnauth replacing Safraz Esau, Richard Latif and Navin Singh who opted to ply their trade elsewhere. “The three newcomers to the team are newcomers to the side but not newcomers to rigid softball cricket arena and have settled in well and gives the side the right balance. They are eager to wear the Regal uniform and are hungry for success which is a big plus for us,” stated Hardyal as he welcomed the trio to his side. The senior side Regal Masters side is in the Over-45 category and has been putting in the hours as well on a daily basis, like the All-Stars team, at the GNIC Sports Club.Coincidentally, just like the All-Stars team, the Masters were champions in 2016 and runners-up in 2017 and according to Hardyal, “the team is more settled than before and we are playing better as a team. We have professionalism, talent and are fit and ready.” The Regal teams are no strangers to the ‘double’ as they have won both titles in the South Florida Softball Cricket League’s Florida Cup in 2017.Both teams will wrap up their preparation tomorrow before winging out to New York ahead of the bowl off on Friday in Queens. In their quest for the double, the teams have been strongly supported by Ink Plus, Fly Jamaica Airways, Cricket Zone USA, Muslim Youth Organization (MYO), National Sports Commission (NSC), Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, Star Party Rentals, Ansa McAl and Elegance Jewelley and Pawn Shop.last_img read more
