(Photo by Kirk Irwin/Getty Images)Wednesday morning, former ESPN writer Brett McMurphy released a long, detailed report that suggests that Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer lied when he said he was not aware of 2015 domestic violence allegations against wide receivers coach Zach Smith.McMurphy included photos of text messages between Smith’s ex-wife Courtney and Shelley Meyer – Urban’s wife. In response, many are debating whether Meyer will survive the scandal.Bleacher Report’s Matt Hayes doesn’t think Meyer should coach another game at Ohio State. Hayes says that the school should fire Meyer “immediately” to get out ahead of the aftermath. Here’s what Hayes had to say:If the school fires Meyer now, maybe it can mitigate the damage by arguing it fired him as soon as it found out. If not, the fallout will only increase in the court of public opinion—for a university already embroiled in a lawsuit from former wrestlers who allege sexual misconduct from a now deceased doctor employed by the university in the 1970s.That case has reached all the way to Washington, D.C., where Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan—a former Ohio State assistant wrestling coach—has been accused by the former wrestlers of knowing about the misconduct and ignoring it.Neither the Meyer family nor the school has yet to release a statement on the matter. There are reports, however, that Meyer is meeting with school AD Gene Smith on Wednesday afternoon. It’s hard to know what the school will actually do. Meyer is one of the most successful college football coaches in history and he has the Buckeyes playing near the top of the sport. But if he really did keep Smith employed with knowledge of alleged domestic violence, none of that will matter. We’ll keep you updated on the situation.last_img read more
